Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Communications and Technology of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Jama Hassan Khalif officially opened the Data Protection Authority and applauded the timely efforts to provide robust legal frameworks that govern data privacy matters, further emphasising the Government’s readiness to rectify years of neglect.
The launching event was attended by officials including Ministers, D.Gs and the civil society as they witnessed the huge step taken by the government.
Fardowsa Osman Igal, Minister of Transport and Aviation who spoke at the ceremony, highlighted that her Ministry handles diverse types of data and expressed readiness to collaborate with the newly established Data Protection Authority.
“I was pleased to witness the opening ceremony of the Data Protection Authority. During my remarks, I reiterated the vital role of the authority in protecting data privacy. I applaud the efforts of H.E. Minister Khalif and Director Mohamed Royal and wish the DPA success in its endeavours,” Interior Minister said.
The Director General of the Data Protection Agency, Mohamed Royal, delivered his welcoming remarks at the official launch event, extending a warm welcome to the esteemed guests. He provided detailed insights into the crucial mandate and responsibilities of the Agency.
