Addis Ababa, December 18, 2023 (Addis Walta) The fourth round trilateral negotiation on Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam (GERD) between Ethiopia, Egypt, and Sudan has started today in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
These rounds of negotiations are being carried out following the joint statement by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia, and President Abdel Fatah El Sisi of Egypt on 13 July 2023, which aims to initiate expedited negotiation to finalize the guidelines and rules on the first filling and annual operation of the GERD.
This round of negotiation was preceded by a one-day meeting of technical experts from the three countries.
In its effort to build the GERD, Ethiopia adhered to the 2015 Declaration of Principles (DoP) on the GERD Project. In particular, Ethiopia will continue to advocate for consensual outcomes based on the principle of equitable and reasonable utilization of the waters of the Nile River, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
