MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Several people were killed in clashes between members of Somalia’s army and allied clan militias in the central town of Mahas on Saturday, officials said.
Mayor of Mahas Mumin Mohamed Halane said there were casualties as a result of the gun battle that followed the killing of civilian by a government soldier.
Authorities continue efforts to mediate the two sides and prevent a repeat of similar incidents in the town, he added in an interview with VOA Somali.
Members of the Somali army in Mahas and local clan fighters were set to participate in an upcoming offensive against Al-Shabaab in Galgadud region following setbacks in operations against the insurgent group.
