The official visit of Mohamud Abdikarin Ali Gabayre, President of the Somali Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to Belgrade, Serbia, marks a significant step towards strengthening economic ties between the two countries. During his visit, Gabayre met with the President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and representatives from several prominent Serbian businesses, including ITN GroupLTD, YUMIS NIS Company, Vlatacom Technology Company, and Thorn ZUMTOBREL Lighting Company.
These companies are among the largest in Eastern Europe and specialize in agriculture, technology, and lighting and electrical equipment. The meeting between Gabayre and these companies highlights the potential for increased trade and cooperation between Somalia and Serbia.
Somalia’s long coastline could serve as a trade route to East Africa, providing Serbian businesses with access to new markets. In return, Serbia’s productive mining and agriculture industries could provide valuable resources to Somalia.
The discussions between the two sides focused on developing trade between Somalia and Serbia, as well as trade in the Horn of Africa region and the Red Sea waterway. This visit is expected to pave the way for increased economic cooperation between the two countries, benefiting both their economies.
