Addis Ababa, May 22/2023 (Walta) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen, held a discussion with Minister of International Development of Canada, Harjit Singh Sajjan, on further strengthening development cooperation between the two countries, at his office earlier this morning.
Demeke told Minister Sajjan Government of Ethiopia is endeavoring towards realizing development and growth for Ethiopia and in the Horn of Africa, particularly in investment and trade policies as well as building strategic partnerships leading towards regional economic integration
Demeke also pointed out that Home-Grown Economic Reform Agenda and Digital Ethiopia 2025 are the pillars of Ethiopia’s transformative economic policy currently striving to implement, in addition to the ongoing peace consolidation efforts which both require support from international partners such as the International Development of Canada.
The transitional justice, national dialogue, disarmament, demobilization and rehabilitation (DDR) processes, Ethiopia currently carrying out also need continuous support and cooperation for its fruition.
He also explains Ethiopia’s effort to launch the second phase of the Green Legacy Initiative as part of its commitment to building a climate-change-resilient economy.
Mr. Sajjan, on his part, noted the longstanding Ethio-Canadian development cooperation and vowed to continue supporting initiatives that increase agricultural productivity and improve food security, according to MFA of Ethiopia.
