MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi has urgently summoned Danish Ambassador Steen Sonne Andersen to register vehement objection to his recent comments, in which he referred to Somaliland as an independent nation following its recent elections.
Following the ambassador’s remarks, he and the UK Ambassador were overheard discussing the potential fallout, with the UK Ambassador saying, “We will see how Mogadishu receives that. You are putting Somaliland like a country,” to which the Danish Ambassador replied, “We are used to it.”
On Saturday, Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi issued a stern warning to European ambassadors, condemning actions he deemed detrimental to Somalia’s sovereignty. Specifically addressing their recent visit to Somaliland, he threatened that the Somali government would take decisive action in response to their violations.
