Addis Ababa, March 17, 2023 (Walta) – East African countries should strengthen their cooperation in labour migration Policies, said Ethiopian Minister of Labour and Skills, Muferihat Kamil.
The minister, on the closing session of East African 4th Regional Ministerial Forum on Migration, pointed out 48 percent of women who migrate to different countries in the world are Africans.
According to the International Organization for Migration data, 50.4 percent of the citizens migrating from East Africa are women and children.
This indicates, East African countries should strengthen their cooperation in labour migration Policies, minister Muferihat underlined.
International Organization for Migration (IOM), East Africa Director Mohamed Abdikadir, on his part said cooperation between the private sector and the diaspora is crucial to diminish the illegal migration.
On the 4 days Regional Ministerial Forum on Migration for East and Horn of Africa, government ministers from 11 countries have been participating.
