Addis Ababa, July 2, 2024 (Addis Walta) Ethiopia and Somalia expressed their commitment to peacefully resolute their differences at Türkiye facilitated discussion held in Ankara.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Taye Atske-Selassie, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi convened on 1 of July, 2024 in Ankara at the invitation of The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan,
Following yesterday’s meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia issued a press release. In the press release it is indicated that the minister of foreign affairs of both countries discussed their differences candidly and positively.
In the statement, the two foreign ministers “were able to separately have a candid, cordial and forward-looking exchange concerning their differences and explored perspectives towards addressing them within a mutually acceptable framework.”
Both Ethiopian and Somalian foreign ministers reiterated their commitment to the peaceful resolution of differences, and expressed their appreciation to Türkiye for its facilitation, as well as its constructive contributions.
“The Ministers agreed to pursue the ongoing dialogue with a view to resolving their issues and ensuring regional stability,” adds the press release.
The two foreign ministers agreed to meet in Ankara on 2nd of September 2024 for the second round discussions.
