H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, the newly appointed Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, brings extensive expertise to his new role.
Previously, he served as Somalia’s Ambassador to Sudan from 2010-2011 before being appointed as the inaugural Director of National Intelligence and Security Agency from 2011-2013, playing a critical role in revitalizing the agency and reestablishing its operational capabilities.
He also served as Galmudug internal Security minister from 2020-2021. Fiqi is also the outgoing Minister of Interior, a position he served since August 2022, during which he significantly contributed to elevating the ministry’s standing and effectiveness in addressing the governance, reconciliation, and federalization priorities. Additionally, Minister Fiqi served as a member of the House of the People, representing the Mudug region from 2016 to 2022.
With further expertise in the areas of development and emergency, democratic political systems, conflict prevention and resolution, civil society development, public administration reform, human rights and good governance, His Excellency Ahmed Moallim Fiqi has undoubtedly left his mark on Somalia’s political and security sectors
