MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s international partners, including the United States, Qatar, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates supported the federal government’s plans to expel Ethiopian troops once their peacekeeping mandate ends next year, National Security Advisor Hussein Sheikh Ali said.
Ali participated in a QUINT group meeting this week in Washington, where Somalia’s international partners—including the US, UK, Qatar, Turkey, and the UAE—gathered.
During the conference, Somali representatives reaffirmed their government’s commitment to preventing Ethiopian troops from participating in the new AU peacekeeping mission scheduled to begin operations in Somalia next year, amid rising tensions between the two countries.
“The countries supporting us on security endorsed our position, affirmed that it is a valid argument, and emphasized the need to concentrate on defeating the Khawarijites,” the Somali National Security Advisor said in an interview with VOA Somali.
