MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The president of Somalia on Wednesday sent a new representative to Baidoa to foster communication with Southwest leader Laftagaren and reduce the escalating tensions that have recently manifested in heated exchanges and threats of military action.
Mahad Abdirahman Adan, the Chief of the Custodial Corps and an important ally of Laftagaren, who is also his father-in-law, was dispatched to Baidoa after a meeting with President Mohamud in Mogadishu shortly before he left.
His primary mission was to defuse tensions between Southwest and the federal government, as well as to persuade Laftagaren to travel to Mogadishu for the National Consultative Conference, which could not occur without his presence, especially in light of Puntland’s absence.
Adan has arrived in Baidoa a short while ago and is currently in negotiations with President Laftagaren. However, it remains uncertain whether his proposal will be accepted, especially considering that Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre came back from Baidoa last week empty-handed after meeting with the regional leader.
It remains ambiguous whether Laftagaren will accept what he had once turned down from Prime Minister Barre or if he will likewise reject the proposal from his father-in-law, Adan.
