MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Qatar-hosted Somalia diaspora conference, which kicked in Doha this week, has given a new hope of revival for the party of former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo whose team are working hard to gain the support of the attendees at the meeting, including prominent critics of his rule.
Dozens of prominent figures and politicians, who had helped the incumbent President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to ascend to power, met the former leader at his residence in Doha for talks on the current situation in the country.
Though details of the talks have not been disclosed, but analysts the team of the ex-President have capitalized on the conference to bring in new blood to their party and launch his re-election campaign.
Images show staunch supporters of Mohamud sitting next to the former President, though it is not clear if they broke ranks with the current administration for sidelining and excluding them from decision-making platforms.
An ex-official with Mohamud’s office Hodan Ali said the meeting, organized by the State Minister of Foreign Affairs, saw the “launch of the re-election campaign of former president” Farmajo.
“The conference brought together Somali diaspora notables to discuss the current state of affairs & how the supreme leader can save the country. It’s also widely reported that the mood was nostalgic as Xabiibul Malyuun blessed the crowd,” she added.
