MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said on Monday his government will not permit Ethiopia to build a naval base in the break-away region of Somaliland ahead of planned meeting in Addis Ababa between Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Somaliland leader Muse Bihi Abdi.
Speaking at a conference held in Mogadishu, Mohamud said Ethiopia should refrain from provocative actions and violation of its neighbor’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Somali government has no objection to Ethiopia gaining access to Somalia’s coastline, but strongly opposes the approach taken by Ethiopia to sign a deal with the break-away region of Somaliland, he added.
