Addis Ababa, May 10, 2024(Addis Walta) Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed his ambition to replicate the success of the agricultural sector in the industrial sector.
The Gada Special Economic Zone construction was inaugurated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who oversaw the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and the Oromia Regional State.
This agreement is aimed at developing the Lume free trade zone within the Geda Special Economic Zone.
Following this, Prime Minister Abiy stated that the Geda Industrial Zone would be a key institution in revealing the potential of our country and region, helping us achieve our goals.
“We aim to replicate the successes of our agricultural sector in the industrial domain, and the Gada Special Economic Zone serves as a pivotal platform to realize this vision, unlocking the vast potential of our region and nation”, the premier underscored.
He added that establishing and operating the Lume Free Trade Zone within the SEZ will become the second free trade area after Dire Dawa, amplifying opportunities for economic growth and development.
Situated 65km east of Addis Ababa, this initiative aims to boost exports, establish a trade logistics center, and allure foreign investments, fostering industrial, trade, investment, and urban development.
