DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, embarked on an official visit to Dar es Salaam, the bustling capital city of Tanzania and the headquarters of the East African Community (EAC), which Somalia recently joined.
Upon his arrival, President Mohamud was warmly received by his Tanzanian counterpart, President Mrs. Samia Suluhu Hassan, who extended the invitation to discuss the state of the region and explore the common interests of both nations under the EAC umbrella. The visit marks a pivotal moment as Tanzania was instrumental in supporting Somalia’s membership bid to the EAC.
The visit is also historically significant as President Mohamud will participate in the 60th-anniversary celebrations of Tanzania’s union and nationalism, a testament to the enduring spirit of African unity and self-determination.
During his stay, President Mohamud’s delegation is scheduled to engage in high-level talks with Tanzanian officials. The discussions are set to cover a wide range of topics, including the enhancement of traditional bilateral relations, expediting Somalia’s integration into the Horn of Africa’s economic framework, and fostering economic and investment partnerships.
This diplomatic engagement is expected to pave the way for increased cooperation between Somalia and Tanzania, furthering the EAC’s mission of regional stability, economic prosperity, and cultural exchange.
