MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland National Electoral Commission (NEC) on Saturday scheduled delayed presidential election for November 13 after years-long deadlock over the conduct of polls, triggering tensions between the government and opposition parties.
In a press conference held in Hargeisa, NEC chairman Muse Hassan Yusuf said Waddani, Ucid and Kulmiye parties will participate in the presidential vote, adding that another election will be held at the same time in which 10 registered political organizations will compete with the current parties. Only the top three winning political organizations will be chosen as the break-away region’s official political parties after the vote.
