MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The government of Djibouti is planning to host a meeting between the Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed and the President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud as part of regional efforts to dial down tensions between the neighboring countries, Djiboutian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamud Ali Yusuf has said.
In an interview with MM Somali TV, Yusuf said the two leaders will meet in Djibouti as part of talks brokered by the leaders of the Inter-governmental Authority for Development (IGAD), including the Presidents of Djibouti and Kenya.
The talks follow another meeting between the two leaders which had previously taken place in Kenya’s capital Nairobi, he added.
Mogadishu and Addis Ababa have reduced rhetoric heightening tensions over a port deal between Ethiopia and the breakaway region of Somaliland since the leaders met in Nairobi several weeks ago.
