Addis Ababa, February 7, 2024 (Addis Walta) Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen conferred with the Belgian Minister for Development Cooperation, Caroline Gennez, at his office today.
Demeke underlined the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and development cooperation in the areas of education, health, and human capital development between Ethiopia and Belgium.
He also underscored to the minister on importance of the ongoing national dialogue and transitional justice process and affirmed the commitment of the Ethiopian Government for the implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement.
Highlighting the continual efforts of the Ethiopian Government, Demeke also highlighted the need for a practical steps taken to mitigate the current growing climate challenges.
Caroline, on her part, stressed the importance of enhancing the existing cooperation of the two countries and reiterated the commitment of the Belgian government to work with Ethiopia particularly on humanitarian issues, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
Demeke congratulated Belgium for assuming presidency in the Council of the European Union.
