Addis Ababa, February 1, 2024(Addis Walta) The Press Secretary for the Prime Minister’s Office, Billene Seyoum, stated that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his group had three successful days in Rome, Italy, marked by significant achievements.
During the delegation’s visit, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, was awarded the prestigious Agricola Medal by UNFAO. The medal recognizes Ethiopia’s agricultural sector achievements, particularly its wheat farming productivity.
In a statement, Billene cited the Green Legacy Initiative as a milestone that has opened up the pathways for other agricultural activities such as the Bounty of the Basket, accelerating the nation’s transition from food security to food sovereignty.

The Press Secretary also noted that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has better leveraged the Italy-Africa Summit to deliver Africa’s call to developed nations including Italy for cooperation with the continent in economic infrastructure including road connectivity, railway and ports, and other key sectors.
The Prime Minster highlighted Ethiopia’s immense potential in the renewable energy sector and called developed countries to invest in this sector, according to the Press Secretary. She said the Premier also encouraged Italy and other developed countries to invest in the agriculture sector in Africa and support industrial development and job creation endeavors in the continent.
The Secretary stated that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held a fruitful bilateral discussion with Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni. She also highlighted the agreement to return the ‘Tsehay’ Aircraft to Ethiopia as the Premier’s remarkable diplomatic success, calling it monumental in inspiring the generation for future innovative endeavors.
