The commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Mr. Mohamud Moalim received a humanitarian aid package from the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, a Turkish organization that works on humanitarian affairs.
The aid package included food, mosquito nets, and tents to shelter the displaced families from the flood-hit areas and various household utensils. The aid package is intended to help communities that have been affected by the El Niño floods who are in dire need for humanitarian relief.
The commissioner of SoDMA thanked the IHH foundation for their generosity and solidarity with the Somali people. He said that the aid package would be distributed to the most vulnerable and needy people in Somalia where the floods have caused widespread damage and displacement.
The IHH foundation representative said that the organization was committed to supporting the Somali people in their time of crisis.
The El Niño phenomenon, which is characterized by higher-than-normal sea levels and warmer-than-average ocean temperatures along the equatorial Pacific, has caused heavy rainfall and flooding in many parts of Somalia.
