MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – A suicide car bomb targeting base housing military police and intelligence officers on the outskirts of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu killed at least 10 soldiers, Caasimada Online news website reported on Saturday.
Images circulated online following the attack at Elasha Biyaha area, some 20km west of Mogadishu, showed the complete destruction of the base and gun-mounted military vehicles.
Al-Qaeda-aligned militant Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility, saying it killed 49 soldiers and wounded a number of the others.
A local security official told VOA that troops had fired on the incoming vehicle but due to its shielded windows to deflect bullets, it managed to explode inside the camp.
