Addis Ababa, October 4, 2023 (Addis Walta) Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen, received South Sudanese East African Affairs Minister, Mr. Deng Alor Kuol at his office today.
The two sides discussed issues pertaining to regional peace and stability, as well as the Sudanese crisis.
In connection with the situation in Sudan, Demeke said the Government of Ethiopia continues to play a balanced and constructive role regarding the crisis in the country.
Deng brought a message from South Sudan President, Salva Kiir፣ to Ethiopia regarding issues on “Abiye” in light of the ongoing crisis in Sudan and the role of the African Union in dealing with the matter.
On issues related to Abiye, Demeke emphasized that Ethiopia strongly holds a stance for the case to be addressed peacefully and it will continue to play a constructive role in the region.
He further assured the South Sudanese delegation that, the issue of Abiye should be brought to the African Union Peace and Security Council which Ethiopia would respect the Union’s resolution on the matter, according to MFA of Ethiopia.
