MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Yasin Haji Faraton was elected as the new speaker of Somaliland parliament on Sunday, weeks after former speaker Abdirisak Khalif resigned due to the war raging in Lasanod town.
Faraton won 46 votes against 35 for his opponent Mohamed Khadar.
The new speaker comes from Sool region where Somaliland troops are battling forces seeking a reunification with Somalia and enjoys the support of the incumbent President Muse Bihi Abdi.
