MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres arrived in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Tuesday amid tight security and received a red carpet reception at Adan Adde International Airport.
Guterres and his delegation were received at the airport by the Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs Abshir Omar Huruse.
The delegation was escorted to the presidential palace where Guterres is set to meet with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre over issues, including the current humanitarian situation in Somalia and the ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab.
Main roads in Mogadishu were closed to traffic early on Tuesday morning ahead of the arrival of the UN delegation and hundreds of police and military officers with dozens of armored vehicles were deployed to beef up security.
