MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland authorities on Saturday accused the neighboring Somali semi-autonomous region of Puntland of launching attacks on two of its army bases, hours after fresh fighting erupted in the contested town of Lasanod.
Somaliland Defense Minister told journalists in Hargeisa that allied Puntland regional forces and other local fighters attacked army camps outside the restive town, adding that break-away region’s troops seized military vehicles and weapons.
Local forces fighting in Lasanod town accused Somaliland troops of launching the early morning attack, claiming to have captured weapons and ammunition. There has been no independent confirmation of claims by both sides.
