MOGADISHU [SMN] – The Minister of Defense of Somalia, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nor, and the Ambassador of the US Larry Andre, have signed an agreement on the Danab force.
The Minister said that this agreement is to strengthen the training and equipping of the Danab commando forces in Somalia, to prevent the threat from the Al-Shabaab group.
The signing was attended by the Deputy Commander of the Somali Armed Forces, General Abas Amin.
Minister Abdulkadir thanked the US to the Somalia, noting that the Federal Government a is committed to building and enhancing the strength of the country’s armed forces.
The United States is one of the international partners of the Somali government to help build the country’s armed forces, especially the Danab commandos.
In January 2023, the Ambassador handed over to the Minister of Defense weapons, military equipment and military vehicles intended for the war against the Al-Shabaab.
U.S. Africa Command’s forces will continue training, advising, and equipping partner forces to help give them the tools they need to defeat Al-Shabaab.
In August 2022, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has declared an “all-out war” on jihadists upon taking office in May 2022, rallying Somalis to help flush out Al-Shabaab.
