Gardo, Somalia, January 30, 2023 — In collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Puntland, with funding from H.E Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani, Save the Children officially inaugurated a new health centre in Gardo, Somalia. The facility will provide communities in and around Gardo district, with much-needed health services including prenatal care, safe deliveries, vaccinations, and nutrition services for mothers and children.
Puntland Health Minister of Dr. Jama Farah, officials from Gardo district, Save the Children, and members of the community, attended the inauguration ceremony.
H.E Dr. Jama Farah, minister of Health, thanked H.E Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani, who has donated funds for the construction, furnishing and staffing of the facility and Save the Children for their support. The Minister has also acknowledged that the centre will play a crucial role in reducing mortality rates for pregnant women, infants, and new-borns.
Dr. Jama Farah, minister of Health in Puntland State, said:
” We appreciate the support from Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani. May Allah reward him from his generous services in Somalia. This health centre promises to bring about a positive change in the local community and neighbouring villages. The centre will play an important role in providing critical health services to mothers and children in Gardo district.
“Our government is committed to increasing health coverage and access to health services in Puntland. This facility will be very important to achieving that goal.
Mohamed Abdulkadir, Area Representative Save the Children Puntland Office, said:
“This Health Centre offers primary health services such as prenatal care, safe delivery, immunizations, and nutrition services for children and mothers, including those affected by the recurring droughts in remote areas of Qardho.
